Rupi Kaur

In anticipation of the announcement of her third book, Home Body, along with a partnership with Kotn, Rupi Kaur approached us for a new website because her previous one had been designed before she was propelled to international acclaim.

With an Instagram following of 4 million and a fanbase far beyond that, she needed not only a site that matched her poetry, aesthetic and vision, but one that pushed sales of her books and products.

Rupi Kaur’s third book, Home Body, was one of the most anticipated books of 2020. The way that the books are actually made is largely important to Rupi, so she asked us to build a custom Behind the Scenes element of the site where users could interact with the book and learn more about the materials and processes in which it was put together.

A seamless shopping experience

Kotn and Rupi had created a partnership, selling a T-shirt with a line of Rupi’s poetry printed on the front.

We integrated the backend of Rupi’s affiliate site, Aspeth, into the front end of this site so that the user’s never needed to leave the page to purchase the shirt, and it’s still selling at a rapid rate.

Finding the right accent

One of the main challenges we faced was finding a unique aesthetic element that matched Rupi’s brand, work, and illustrations, while not being entirely based upon them.

We explored many options before settling on a series of abstract watercolor dashes that imbued the site with colour and creativity.
